“I thank God am still at Chelsea”  – Chelsea man ‘thankful’ Enzo Maresca haven’t got rid of him yet

Chelsea’s Continual Development Under Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly
Chelsea has undergone tremendous change since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over, with a constant influx and outflow of players.

In the most recent transfer window, this pattern persisted. Jadon Sancho, Joao Felix, and Pedro Neto were added by Chelsea, while Conor Gallagher and Romelu Lukaku were prominent exits.

Atletico Madrid, where Gallagher recently celebrated his first goal in a 3-0 victory over Valencia, is where he is already settling in nicely.

Marcus Bettinelli Grateful to Stay at Chelsea
Among all the squad reshuffling, one player who has managed to stay put is goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.

Since joining Chelsea in 2021, Bettinelli has only made one appearance for the team, largely serving as the third-choice keeper. Despite this, the 32-year-old remains appreciative that Boehly and co-owner Behdad Eghbali have kept him in the squad.

Speaking to The Athletic, Bettinelli said, “When I joined as the third-choice keeper behind Kepa and Edouard Mendy, I understood my role and responsibilities. I learned a lot during that first year.”

Though he hasn’t yet played under new manager Enzo Maresca, Bettinelli is enjoying his time working with the head coach at Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham.

Who Could Be on the Way Out Next?
While Bettinelli’s position at Chelsea seems secure for now, other players may not be as fortunate.

Ben Chilwell is one player whose future at the club looks uncertain. The left-back has only recently returned to the first team, and it’s clear he’s not in Maresca’s long-term plans.

Mykhailo Mudryk is another player who might be in a vulnerable spot. With Chelsea’s recent signings of Sancho, Neto, and Felix, who can all play in wide positions, Mudryk faces tough competition. A January loan move seems likely for him, and if he fails to impress during that spell, Chelsea could decide to sell the 23-year-old.

More Changes on the Horizon?
Under the new ownership of Boehly and Clearlake Capital, Chelsea has undergone major changes. Judging by the club’s recent transfer activity, it wouldn’t be surprising if further moves are made in the near future.
