“I won’t make that mistake again” “It will be toe to toe” – Enzo Maresca reveals ‘ONE’ big reason why Chelsea will be ready to fight for the title this season
“I won’t make that mistake again” “Never in my life” – Enzo Maresca reveals ‘ONE’ big reason why Chelsea will be ready to fight for the title this season
After finishing 15 points behind Liverpool last season, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca believes the Blues have made enough progress to mount a genuine Premier League title challenge.
Speaking to the Men in Blazers YouTube channel, Maresca reflected on just how far the club has come in the past year.
“I think one year ago, we were very far from the ones that dominated English football,” Maresca admitted.
“And I think that now we are quite close, and hopefully we can continue to improve, and be even closer and try to compete for the title.”
Chelsea endured a long and tense battle for a top-four finish last season, eventually securing Champions League qualification on the final matchday. Their 2024/25 campaign ended with the Blues 15 points adrift of champions Liverpool, highlighting the gap they needed to close.
But since then, under Maresca’s leadership, the Blues have added two more trophies to their cabinet — the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup — injecting belief and momentum into the squad.
Maresca knows the expectations at Stamford Bridge will always be high.
“When you are at Chelsea, the target has to be always to win games and titles. This is the minimum required. So we’re going to try.”
His words underline a shift in confidence within the camp. Chelsea fans will be encouraged by the progress already made in Maresca’s first full year in charge — and now, with silverware in the bag and a stronger, more cohesive squad, the manager is openly setting his sights on going toe-to-toe with England’s elite.
The message is clear: the days of chasing are over. Chelsea are ready to compete.
