‘In a dark situation’ – Jason Cundy worried as Chelsea have another Mason Mount at Stamford Bridge

Jason Cundy has raised his major concern regarding the future of Conor Gallagher at Chelsea.

In fact, he’s compared it to the scenario with Mason Mount, which ended with Chelsea selling him to Manchester United in the summer after parties couldn’t sort a new deal

Conor Gallagher, who’s one of the numerous success stories to come from the Blues academy, has emerged as a really important first-team star at Stamford Bridge this season. He’s a nailed-on starter under Mauricio Pochettino and the stand-in captain.

Therefore, people are concerned that the 23-year-old midfielder’s contract is about to enter its final 18 months. In fact, there’s now rumours in the transfer mill about a potential exit.

Another Mason Mount

Mount, 24, was very much the poster boy at Chelsea in recent years following his path from the academy at Cobham to senior talisman. It’s why his exit at the start of the season upset a lot of the fanbase.

Now, talkSPORT pundit and Blues supporter Jason Cundy is worried that history may repeat itself with Gallagher.

“He (Gallagher) hasn’t signed a new contract. He’s got 18 months left in January. I hope we don’t find ourselves in a situation like we did with Mason Mount,” Cundy told talkSPORT (11:45pm, 20 December).

“I’m worried that the club want him to sign this long contract. He’s one of Chelsea’s best players this season. He’s skipper. Poch plays him every week. He’s been brilliant for us, outstanding against Newcastle. I don’t know how they can let him go.

“If it happens, I don’t see it being in January, that’s for sure. If he doesn’t sign that contract the club are in a position where they can’t agree, they will probably do it in the summer.”

Conor Gallagher situation at Chelsea

The Athletic reported at the start of the week that Chelsea are prepared to listen to bids for Gallagher in January.

We’re very much in the camp that the club should be working overtime to keep the England international and tie down his future.

90min claimed earlier this month that Gallagher remains dedicated to Chelsea and has a desire to extend his stay with his boyhood club.

Let’s hope that common sense can prevail and everything can be agreed!
