“It’s sad” – Todd Boehly finally opens up on shock Chelsea departure following Clearlake decision
After just two years of purchasing the London team, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has finally discussed ownership issues with the Clearlake.
After barely two years in command, the American consortium is reportedly looking into its choices for the future.
In 2022, the partnership led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital succeeded Roman Abramovich.
Boehly, who is a part of Guggenheim Partners and has the support of Swiss tycoon Hansjorg Wyss, has previous expertise in sports through his engagement at MLB side LA Dodgers.
Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano co-founded the American private equity firm Clearlake.
However, Informants close to the situation say that…
“The fact that Eghbali, Feliciano, and Boehly must approve all critical decisions may account for the lack of progress made on the designs for Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge stadium”.
“As a result, there has been a significant eruption among the Chelsea owners. Todd Boehly feels that a settlement needs to be reached to prevent a civil war at Stamford Bridge and that his working relationship with Chelsea’s co-owners, Clearlake Capital, is at an all-time low”.
But Boehly thinks he can gather more than £2.5 billion fast enough to present Clearlake with an offer that will return the majority shareholder of Chelsea with a profit on their original investment.
Investors are reportedly prepared to support Boehly, who is thought to have a 20–30 year plan for Chelsea that includes building a new stadium.
