It must have been a difficult time for Chelsea fans to have seen rival clubs sign players in the transfer market while the Blues were unable to make signings due to the transfer ban.
Journalist Duncan Castles has now told Chelsea fans to be excited about the message Blues boss Frank Lampard has sent to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. According to Castles, Lampard has had positive talks with the Russian billionaire and will be backed by the club owner in the transfer market.
“I saw Frank Lampard talking about the ban being lifted and jokingly saying it was actually quite nice having the transfer ban when he first took over the job because it took a lot of problems away from him,” Castles said on the Transfer Window Podcast.
“It simplified that process of arriving at Chelsea and that he could focus entirely on the squad he had, didn’t have the option to bring players, didn’t need to pressure the board to spend money, didn’t need to spend his time working on his own assessments of players to come in and also analysing the club’s assessments of what players to come in.
“But he also said that the opportunity to spend now was something that was appealing to him, it should be taken when you have the opportunity to improve a squad on the market.
“It’s an important part of the manager’s job and having had the time he’s had to assess the quality of players he’s worked with, he’s got a better idea of what he needs.
“Also quite keen to emphasise the amount of money that was taken by Chelsea in the summer transfer window and the amount of money there was to play with.
