A section of the Chelsea FC fans have urged the club’s hierarchy to offload Marcos Alonso following the team’s recent League Cup exit at the hands of Manchester United.
Alonso started the season as the back-up left-back behind Emerson but a thigh injury for the Italian has allowed him with an extended run from the starting lineup.
Emerson has recently returned to the mix after the injury setback but Alonso has still continued to command a starting spot with manager Frank Lampard cautious over the fitness of the former.
Alonso has impressed on the attacking point of view this season with his winning goal against Newcastle United being one of the notable contributions, but he has still been criticised for his defensive displays.
Against United, Alonso had a tough night as he struggled to cope with the pace and directness from Daniel James and he eventually conceded a penalty for a clumsy foul on the Welshman in the box.
That allowed United to open the scoring against the run of play and the Red Devils eventually went on to win the game by a 2-1 scoreline after a stellar Marcus Rashford free-kick.
Alonso really is a major deficiency & has been from when he arrived. People love to use his goals to justify keeping him. LB’s aren’t judged on goals. He does so much more harm than good, need to sell him in the summer & sign a Top LB that can compete with Emerson.

While Alonso was able to make three successful tackles and four interceptions, a section of the fans have clearly expressed their frustration over the vulnerability which remains in his defending.
