Leicester City however suffered a surprise semi-final exit in the Carabao Cup after being beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa.
After a first leg 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium, the game was tied at 1-1 again in the second leg, only for a late Trezeguet goal in the 93rd minute to send the Foxes packing from the competition. Rodgers revealed his disappointment at the result at the end of the game.
“I thought that we were excellent in the game, we played with a nice control and composure in the game,” he said, speaking to Sky Sports. “I am absolutely gutted for my players, they put so much into the game.
“[After scoring the equaliser] Only one team looked like it would win. It is a tough one to take, but congratulations to Aston Villa, they go through and we have to move on.”
The Leicester City boss has now warned that his side will put all their energy in the race to finish in top four.
“It’s hugely disappointing for them but this will be good for the players going forward,” he said, speaking to Talksport. “It’ll give you the extra determination to succeed.”
Chelsea go away to Leicester City this weekend at Stamford Bridge, and a win for the Blues can cut the gap on Leicester City to just five points.
