Manchester united and Chelsea set to agree £50M deal for player

Some shocking rumors have suggested that Manchester United is planning a surprise move to sign Chelsea youngster Ben Chilwell.

Following an extremely poor season the previous year, Man United has been in the transfer news a lot lately due to several players being linked to a move to Old Trafford.

It’s no secret that Erik Ten Hag’s team had a difficult time getting going in the Premier League the previous season. The Dutchman was particularly concerned about his defense because the team allowed far too many goals to be scored.

According to MailOnline, Manchester United is currently searching for a new left-back, and Chilwell is one of their shortlist candidates.

The 27-year-old, who Chelsea signed in a £50m deal from Leicester City in 2020, missed out on a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad after starting just nine Premier League games for the Blues last season.

Chelsea have had no desire to sell the England star – but would be open to a potential deal should they get close to that £50 million they paid Leicester City just a few seasons ago.

Chilwell would also add cover for the injury-prone Luke Shaw – who returned from a five-month absence as a substitute in England’s penalty shootout win against Switzerland on Saturday.

‘The last four months have been really tough,’ Shaw said on Monday.

‘I think obviously, at the start I was expected to come back a lot sooner but, you know, I went through quite a few setbacks, to be honest. But I’m here now and it was really nice to get on the other night.

‘I’ve been itching to get some minutes. It’s been a long while but really pleased that I was able to get on the pitch and get some minutes, and of course, now hopefully get some more in the next game.’
