MATEO KOVACIC is quitting Real Madrid to join Chelsea because he wants more game-time.
Spanish newspaper Marca say Kovacic’s arrival will be announced ‘within the next few hours’ after a deal was struck today.
The Croatian World Cup star will join on loan after a falling out at Real Madrid.
Kovacic this week vowed not to train with the club as he made a desperate attempt to leave.
His wish was granted today when he spoke to Real Madrid representatives who informed him his exit had been given the green light.
Behind his decision to leave is a lack of game-time, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.
They say Kovacic met boss Julen Lopetegui where he expressed a wish to go elsewhere to get more regular football.
The midfielder made just 10 La Liga starts for Barcelona last season with a further 11 appearances coming off the bench.
Should the Blues sign Kovacic, he would become Maurizio Sarri’s third summer signing, following Jorginho and Rob Green to Stamford Bridge.
