Mauricio Pochettino says 22-year-old star could be in his Chelsea’s first team squad ahead of Aston Villa clash

Mauricio Pochettino has shared that Armando Broja could be in a Chelsea squad this weekend for the very first time under him.

Armando Broja, 22, hasn’t played any football this calendar year because of a serious knee injury he picked up last December.

However, the young striker may be on the verge of making his comeback from the long-term spell on the sidelines.

Chelsea boss Pochettino shared in today’s press conference that Broja could be part of the matchday squad on Sunday.

The Blues host Aston Villa in the Premier League in a couple of days time. There will be a final check on the 22-year-old’s fitness on Saturday before deciding, though.

“Maybe Armando Broja can be involved, maybe Sunday. Not sure, we need to assess him tomorrow,” Pochettino said, as quoted by Football London.

Once Broja is back fit and firing, which we guess could take a while after so long on the injury table, Chelsea should be in a much better shape.

There’s been so much pressure on 22-year-old Nicolas Jackson to hit the ground running in a new country as Chelsea’s only available centre-forward.

It’s going to be great competition in the months ahead once Pochettino can rotate between Broja and Jackson. Incidentally, 90min recently reported that Chelsea’s head coach wants to give a fair chance to both Broja and Jackson before deciding if the club need to invest in another striker.
