Maurizio Sarri has suggested he will not ask Chelsea to make any signings during the upcoming January transfer window. The Blues have made a superb start to the new season, winning seven of their first ten league games to climb to third in the Premier League table.
Sarri’s team have also impressed in Europe to sit top of their Europa League group. They face struggling Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Despite Chelsea’s impressive form, there have been suggestions Sarri will try to sign a forward and a defender in January. But, asked whether he had spoken to the Chelsea board about their transfer plans, he said:
‘No, I didn’t ask anything about it to my club because at the moment I think we can stay with these players and be competitive. ‘Maybe not for the top but we have to try to arrive close to the top.
‘It is too easy to go into the market for every problem. I think we need to improve and we need to improve with these players because they can improve. ‘It is my work, I think. For the market, there is the club.
I can say to the club my opinion about what I think I need but my job is to try to improve my players.’ Sarri also confirmed France striker Olivier Giroud has been unable to recover in time for Sunday’s home match against Palace.
With the former Arsenal man set to mark his return on Thursday night in the Europa League, Alvaro Morata will keep his place in the team this weekend.
Morata has endured a difficult period at Chelsea following his £70million move from Real Madrid but at least scored on his last league appearance against Burnley.
Crystal Palace have made a poor start to the season but Roy Hodgson’s side secured a point against Unai Emery’s Arsenal last weekend.
