Maurizio Sarri opens up on Andreas Christensen’s future at Chelsea

The Dane has reportedly been targeted by Barcelona.
The Blaugrana have recently announced the signing of the new centre-back.

Chelsea’s manager insists there’s no way Andreas could leave the club.

Andreas Christensen was allegedly one of the players that could leave Chelsea in the upcoming transfer window. The main reason behind the rumours was the Dane’s lack of the playing time: under Maurizio Sarri the centre-back has taken part in only one Premier League game. Barcelona whose regular defender Samuel Umtiti is reportedly out for months have been named among the main contenders for the 22-year-old Blue.

However, the Blaugrana announced the signing of Jeison Murillo from Valencia as a replacement for their French defender, therefore, putting an end to all the speculations concerning their rumoured interest in Christensen.

But will the centre-back stay at Chelsea until the rest of the season or move out on loan in order to play? Maurizio Sarri has the answer.

“I think Barcelona yesterday signed a new centre-back… Christensen is out of the market. He’s an important player for us.”, said the manager when asked about the Dane’s future at Stamford Bridge during the press conference ahead of the clash with Leicester City. Nevertheless, Andreas will miss the game against The Foxes due to the injury sustained in Bournemouth victory.

Back in November, Chelsea’s defender opened up on how hard it was for him to put up with the new role at the club: “There’s a difference from last season. I played a lot of games but this season hasn’t been like that. It’s always difficult for a player but we’ll see what happens.” However, Sarri’s words might now provide the Dane with a little optimism.
