Maurizio Sarri sends message to Chelsea star about Jorginho

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri insists he’s been vindicated in his decision to replace N’Golo Kante with Jorginho at the base of his midfield. Jorginho arrived from Napoli with Sarri in a £52million deal in the summer and the Italian was instantly handed Kante’s preferred defensive midfield slot.

Kante won the PFA Player of the Year in his first season at Chelsea playing from a deeper position but he’s been moved further forward to accommodate Jorginho.

Sarri has introduced a new brand of attacking football at Stamford Bridge and the Italian insists Jorginho’s speed of thought is more compatible with his philosophy.

‘We have a squad for this kind of football,’ said Sarri. ‘If you buy Jorginho and have [Cesc] Fabregas, then I think you have to play 4-3-3.

‘If you play 4-3-3 in my style of football, then the central midfielder is a very technical player.

‘Jorginho is very fast in the mind. He is able to play one touch or two touch. Fabregas also is technically really very good.

I think that Kante in my style of football has to play [further forward]. ‘I can understand that somebody might think something different but if you think to my football, you have to say that I am right.’
