Maurizio Sarri has reportedly drawn up a two-man shortlist with a view to replacing Alvaro Morata in the January transfer window.
Morata had a stunning start under Antonio Conte last season, scoring eight goals in his opening nine matches, but the Spaniard’s form quickly dried up and new Chelsea manager Sarri has already lost patience.
Sarri and Chelsea’s board are in agreement that Morata is not consistent goalscorer they need – and never will be – and the club are ready to splash the cash on a replacement forward this winter.
Cutrone, meanwhile, who had a breakthrough season at AC Milan last season, is available for around £25million.
The Italy international is regarded as one of the most promising attacking talents in Serie A after 18 goals in all competitions last term.
Patrick Cutrone is valued at £25m Gonzalo Higuain was heavily linked with Chelsea in the summer and Sarri admitted that he ‘misses’ his former Napoli striker earlier this week.
Asked whether he was interested in signing the Argentine, Sarri told Corriere dello Sport:
‘Whatever response I give will be considered wrong and put words into my mouth.
‘All I can say is that I feel Gonzalo left Napoli too soon. If he had stayed for another season, I think we could’ve been in a condition to win.
