The former Chelsea midfielder reckons it’s up for Sarri to decide whether any player should appear on the pitch or not
Yet, the 36-year old understands why certain players want to get more playing time .
The Ghanaian is happy about Maurizio Sarri’s start with the Blues
Michael Essien recently did a big interview with Express Sport. Amongst other things, the former Chelsea midfielder who has spent almost 10 years at the club opened up on his attitude towards the players that may be leaving the Blues in January transfer window – we’re talking Danny Drinkwater, Victor Moses and Andreas Christensen.
Essien voiced his opinion on that:
“Every player wants to play. Chelsea isn’t an easy place to come and the competition is very fierce. At the end of the day, all the players work but it’s the manager who will pick who he wants to play.”
“When you’re not playing you get frustrated and you want to look elsewhere. It’s up to them really but they have to keep working and then everyone gets their chance.”
Micheal Essien also shared his thoughts about Sarri’s appointment at Chelsea:
“Sarri came in and didn’t really have much time. He had to go straight into pre-season but he came in and bought some good players. They’ve been doing very well and everyone is buying into his system and how he wants his players to play.”
“So yes, he’s been very good so far and hopefully they can continue like that until the end of the season.”
