“Never try it again” “It was really a mess that almost cost Chelsea” – Ashley Cole warns Chelsea star after shock display in Leicester win
Former Chelsea player Ashley Cole was not too impressed with one thing Robert Sanchez did in his side’s game against Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.
After being guilty of making some huge errors in goal, Sanchez had been dropped by Enzo Maresca.
The 27-year-old started in Chelsea’s win against Copenhagen in the Conference League midweek, giving the impression that he was now the cup keeper.
However, Sanchez replaced Filip Jorgensen for the Blues’ following fixture against Leicester, and there was one moment in the first half where he looked very unconvincing.
It was only mid-February when Maresca said that Jorgensen was Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper.
That no longer looks to be the case, with Sanchez starting against Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men. But around half an hour into the first half, Chelsea fans would have been questioning why after the Spaniard almost cost his side a goal.
Sanchez came out to collect a cross, which nearly resulted in Tosin Adarabioyo heading the ball into his own net.
Commentating on the game, Ashley Cole said: “Robert Sanchez should never be coming for it. There was no way he was getting it. Levi Colwill is the first one to the rebound and collides with Jamie Vardy. It’s a mess. It really was a mess but Chelsea survive.”
With neither Sanchez nor Jorgensen really convincing this season, Chelsea could sign a new goalkeeper in the summer.
Liverpool’s No.2 Caoimhin Kelleher could be one option for Chelsea as he continues to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
