“No energy from them” “lacklustre performance” – Joe Cole slams Chelsea stars after poor display in Legia Warsaw defeat

Even though Chelsea have just booked their spot in the Conference League semi-finals, the team delivered a very poor display on Thursday night.

Chelsea suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Legia Warsaw in the second leg of the quarter-final tie. However, the Blues are into the Conference League semis via a 4-2 aggregate success because they won last week’s first leg by a 3-0 scoreline.

Tomas Pekhart and Steve Kapuadi both scored for the Polish visitors to give them a win on the night. If there’s one positive for the hosts, it’s that Marc Cucurella scored his sixth goal of the season.

The Chelsea player ratings versus Legia Warsaw highlighted that so many individuals were miles from their best in the second leg. It’ll certainly need to be much better from Enzo Maresca’s side when they travel to rivals Fulham on Sunday in the Premier League.

Joe Cole rips into Chelsea after performance against Legia Warsaw

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole delivered a scathing assessment of the Blues’ display in the midweek defeat to Legia Warsaw.

Cole told TNT Sports 4 (10:05pm, 17 April): “The standards dropped well below the standards that this group of players have been, particularly in this competition.

“I thought from the start they didn’t look at it. The ball was not moving quick enough. There wasn’t enough energy in the press. They looked like a team just waiting for the game to finish…

“You have to have energy, and there was no energy tonight… That’s as lacklustre a performance as I’ve seen from this group of players.”

This result and performance will certainly not help ease the tension around the club right now.

There were boos from Chelsea fans in the Legia Warsaw match as the frustration builds up going into the business end of the season.
