Martin Keown is a bit of a clown sometimes, but he knows a thing or two about defending.
The former Arsenal captain was watching Chelsea’s win over Brighton, and he had some really positive words about Fikayo Tomori, who was excellent again at the heart of the defence.
Full of praise about the clean sheet the Blues managed thanks in part to Tomori’s work, Keown was particularly impressed with his performance, and his one on one defending.
“He’s so quick, nobody gets past him,” he said on 5 Live’s Final Score roundup, as quoted here by Inside Futbol.
Hardly the most insightful comments given what a well rounded performance Fik put in today, but he’s not wrong.
That burst of speed allows him to keep up with any forward, and always puts him in a good position to make a block or tackle.
He’s getting the appreciation he deserves now, and we can’t wait to see how he develops with more and more games under his belt.
If he can learn the art of defending to match his immense physical ability, he will be a world class player.
