OFFICIAL: Chelsea announce another 20-year-old’s summer deal

Chelsea have officially announced the highly-rated 20-year-old’s summer move, which had been expected for a while now.

Chelsea have been busy moving players in recent weeks, as it looks like they are eager to get a proper squad shuffle done before making any further additions this summer. That has meant that quite a few have left on a permanent basis while others have headed out on loan in search of playing time and to help with their development.

Of course, a lot of Chelsea’s recent transfer strategy has been about them signing highly-rated youngsters from around the world in hopes of seeing them develop into first-team players or at the very least increase their transfer valuation so that they can be moved on for a profit. Naturally, that means that the club often have to rely on loan deals, as chances are limited at Stamford Bridge.

Caleb Wiley was signed by Chelsea from Atlanta United for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £8.5 million. Since then, he has had loan spells at Strasbourg and Watford. Now, he is headed back to the Hornets.

As reported by Chelsea’s official website, Wiley has completed a return to English Championship club Watford. He will join them on a season-long loan.

At 20 years of age, Wiley needs to be playing regular football in order to continue his development. He won’t get that at Chelsea. So, spending time out on loan at a club where he will is the best-case scenario for him.

It is worth mentioning that Wiley has already represented the United States national team on three occasions. But he has not made a senior appearance for Chelsea yet. That’s how tough it is to make it at Stamford Bridge.

We can only wish Wiley the best at Watford and hope that he ends up having a remarkable season. It is a great chance for him to develop his game at a good level while also remaining in England.
