Chelsea have announced the capture of Italy international Jorginho from Napoli.
Jorginho was a cornerstone in Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli side which was so successful in pushing Juventus for the Serie A title. His distribution from the heart of the midfield will be dearly missed at the Stadio Olimpico, but Napoli’s loss is very much our gain.
Not one player in Europe’s top five leagues attempted more passes last season than Jorginho. On average, he played a pass in the direction of one of his teammates every 30 seconds.
The prospect of him lining up alongside N’Golo Kante is mouthwatering, and we are not going to have to wait very long to see it. Jorginho has put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract with Chelsea after snubbing interest from Manchester City.
Sky Sports reported that the deal is worth around £57M. That makes Jorginho the second most expensive signing in Chelsea’s history.
Welcome to the greatest club on Earth, Jorginho!
