The blues have drawn Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16.
The Blues battled through a very balanced group and managed to finish second, but all that did was guarantee them a match with one of Europe’s top sides – and boy have they got it.
This is not a Bayern side up there with the very best from history, and it’s not as good as the one Chelsea beat in their home stadium in 2012.
But as we saw from their two batterings of Tottenham in the group stage, they are still totally formidable.
On current form, we would be in serious trouble. We’re struggling to beat even relegation threatened sides at home right now, taking down the perennial German champions looks a long way off.
On the other hand, it looked a long way off when we had to go and play them in their stadium in 2012, and we all remember what happened then.
Frank Lampard already has a couple of wins against them as a player on the biggest stage. Now it’s time to start as a manager.
