Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter passed medicals on Monday as he joins Vitesse Arnhem on a season-long loan deal.

Clarke-Salter, who spent last season at Sunderland, was keen to sample Dutch football and the chance to play in the Europa League and acquire the experience to help his promising career development to the next step.

Vitesse boss Leonid Slutsky has proved another big factor in his decision to snub interest from clubs in the Championship and take the Dutch option.

A statement from the Blues said: “Jake Clarke-Salter has today joined Vitesse Arnhem on a season-long loan.

“After appearing in our Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest during the first half of last season, the 20-year-old spent the second part of the campaign on loan at Sunderland, making 13 appearances for the Black Cats.

“He now continues his development in the Eredivisie.”
