Chelsea fans will be keeping their eyes on their star players during the international break.
N’Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud battled against Antonio Rudiger in France’s 0-0 draw with Germany in the UEFA Nations League. Also impressing on international duty was Wales wonderkid, Ethan Ampudu, who dominated the midfield in Wales’ 4-1 win over the Republic of Ireland. Chelsea fans will hope Maurizio Sarri gives the youngster a run in the first-team if his excellent form continues.
Chelsea return to Premier League action next weekend looking to extend their win streak in the new campaign. Sarri’s men face Cardiff City at Stamford Bridge and will heavy favourites against Neil Warnock’s side. Though the transfer window may be closed, the Blues should be keeping tabs on potential targets for January.
One man they should consider signing is Paris St Germain winger – Angel di Maria. Valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, the Argentine has successfully rebuilt his career following a dismal spell with Manchester United back in 2014. While his performances left much to be desired in England, di Maria has recaptured the form that prompted the Red Devils to pay £54m for his services.
The Argentina international helped Unai Emery lift the league title last season, scoring 11 and assisting six in 32 Ligue 1 appearances. Under new manager Thomas Tuchel, Di Maria has continued his impressive exploits, scoring one and assisting four in PSG’s opening four fixtures. Despite his superb performances, the former Real Madrid man’s contract is set to expire in the summer and talks haven’t begun over fresh terms.
Chelsea would be free to negotiate with the 30-year-old in January and could secure a cut-price deal with PSG eager to avoid losing him for nothing. If the price is right, the Blues should consider giving him another chance to shine in the Premier League.
