Spanish international Cesc Fabregas’s move to Monaco is a pained move for Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri who had struck a formidable relationship with the 30-year-old.
Chelsea refused to hand the midfielder an extended deal despite Sarri earmarking him as a rare player, with too similar specifications like his midfield executioner Jorginho.
The Italian joined last summer when Sarri took the helm after a delightful spell at Napoli, though his departure was subject to controversy.
However, with Fabregas gone, Chelsea are grasping at the straws to salvage the loss. The Blues have scoured the transfer window and it appears one man has been marked to wear the shoes of the former Chelsea player.
Zenit St Petersburg’s Leandro Peredes checks all the boxes. Chelsea are miles off, away from closest rivals Arsenal in the Premier League after a laboured 2-1 home win against Newcastle. A win over Arsenal will see them climb to third place.
Although he has reportedly agreed personal terms to join Chelsea, the Blues are looking to argue his price fee down, but that could prove a problem as Zenit are keen on making profit on Peredes’s sale after purchasing him for 24 million pounds in the summer of 2017.
the 24-year-old has been part of the Zenit squad having medicals today with the club posting an image on their social media.
Chelsea fans clocked onto the tweet, which shows Paredes having an eye test, and were quick to react.
Sarri was unhappy he didn’t have options on the bench for Jorginho who showed shards of a sloppy display in the clash.
Chelsea decided to turn elsewhere for another Fabregas solution after being told primary target Nicollo Barella is not ready to switch to England any time soon.
