Fulham midfielder Jean Michael Seri has revealed why he rejected the big boys in favour of signing for the West London minnows.
It’s quite the come down for Seri, who was heavily linked with Barcelona last summer, to end up at Fulham. With the amount of money banked from gaining promotion to the Premier League, though, it’s hardly a surprise that he ended up at Craven Cottage.
Seri was also linked with Chelsea over the summer. Midfield reinforcements looked to be high on our list of priorities. Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic arrived, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek returning, but at one point it looked as though we could see Seri in blue.
He’s now revealed why the move never materialised. Seri has essentially confirmed that Fulham were the only viable option for him, with the bigger names that were linked with him sitting on their hands, rather than making a move to sign him.
The Ivorin is quoted by the Metro saying:
“They said, ‘We want you, come to Fulham.’ Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, they saw me but they didn’t say, ‘We want you.’”
“Because Fulham gave me this respect, although other clubs wanted me, I wanted to sign for Fulham.”
Seri has started well at Fulham. If he continues playing in this manner, he may get his desired move to a bigger team at some point in the not so distant future.
