Chelsea drew first blood in the first leg round of 16 Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.
A second half goal from Olivier Giroud put the Blues in front, in what was a very disciplined Chelsea performance.

Mendy: Started the game on a nervy note as a heavy touch in his box almost allowed Joao Felix to capitalise. Barely made a save all game. 6/10
Azpilicueta: Solid and dependable as usual. Coped well with Thomas Lemar and went about his duties with minimum fuss. 7/10
Christensen: Didn’t panic when up against Luis Suarez. Ensured that the Uruguayan had little impact, and was very solid at the back. 8/10
Rudiger: Was a beast at the back with his no-nonsense defending. Part of a Chelsea backline that knew their job. 7/10
Jorginho: Did okay in the middle of the park as his partnership with Kovacic continues to grow. 6/10
Kovacic: May not have played his best game but he was efficient nevertheless. Good on the ball and worked hard for his team. 7/10
Hudson-Odoi: Restored back to the starting lineup. Got into many good positions, but his final ball was always lacking. 6/10
Alonso: Stable performance as he was always an option on the left flank. Ensured that his positioning wasn’t poor all game. 6/10
Mount: Got booked after 40 seconds, but he recovered from that incident and gave a good account of himself. 6/10
Werner: Frustrating game for Werner, as he couldn’t find the back of the net, and it just didn’t work out too well for the German. 6/10
Giroud: Showed great character to score the goal, as he proved just how important he is. 8/10
Subs: Ziyech: Came on for Mason Mount with about 15 minutes to go. Seemed rusty and off the pace. 5/10
Kante: Came on for Kovacic to help seal the victory, and used his qualities to help Chelsea maintain the lead. 6/10
Reece James: Was brought in late in the game for Hudson-Odoi, and he provided more defensive stability.
Pulisic: late sub for Werner.
