Player ratings: West Ham 0 vs 1 Chelsea as Timo Werner ends his goal drought
Chelsea got the much-needed three points against West Ham at the London Stadium, as a first half goal from Timo Werner was enough for Chelsea to get the victory.
See the player ratings below
Mendy: Was a bystander for most parts of the game, as he was well protected by his defence. Was solid whenever he was called into action. 6/10
Christensen: Made some vital blocks including one fine challenge on Ryan Fredericks. Was strong in the air and very solid at the back. Covered up for Azpilicueta when he needed to, and it was a very good performance. 7/10
Thiago Silva: Good on the ball and was efficient in the middle of the back three. Very composed defending. 7/10
Rudiger: Beside one moment when he was caught out in defence, it was a good performance from the German as the Chelsea defence didn’t let West Ham sniff on goal. 7/10
Azpilicueta: Surprised role in the right wing-back. Didn’t have the pace to burst up and down the flank, but it was an efficient performance nevertheless. Used his experience against the runs of Ryan Fredericks and came out okay. 7/10
Chilwell: Assisted Chelsea’s goal and also got Fabian Balbuena sent off. Teed up a fine ball for Werner to score, and he’s increasingly looking a very good signing with each game. Should start against Real Madrid on Tuesday, as he has since taken over from Marcos Alonso. 7.5/10
Jorginho: Kept it simple, calm, neat and tidy at the back. Experienced performance in the middle of the park. 7/10
Kante: Like his usual theme of each game he really worked hard in midfield and made things work for Chelsea in the middle of the park. However, some of his forward decisions lacked the quality to hurt the Hammers defence despite getting into some good positions. 7/10
Pulisic: Tried his best but found it a bit difficult against a solid West Ham defence. 6/10
Mount: Very good performance, and his all round display was brilliant. His shots tested Fabianski multiple times and his passing range was good as well. He was good on the ball and had a very good game. 8/10
Werner: It was a mixed night for the German. He could easily have been the man of the match, but his misses were too shocking to name him man of the match. He was a threat all game and was well positioned to score the opener. However, his miss from a rebound shot by Mason Mount was just not pleasing to see. 7/10
Subs: Ziyech: Came on for Pulisic with about 20 minutes left. Added a bit of spark but nothing more. 6/10
Reece James: Late sub for Azpilicueta.
Tammy Abraham: Late sub for Timo Werner. But he looked really sharp.
