Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic is reportedly set to undergo his Chelsea medical today before joining us on-loan.
Few would have predicted this one actually materialising. It’s come out of essentially nowhere, and it’s incredibly rare for Chelsea to be signing a player on-loan, rather than shipping them out the other way.
The deal does make a lot of sense, though. Kovacic provides Maurizio Sarri with the midfielder he craves, and reports are now suggesting that Chelsea have managed to negotiate in an option to buy.
We’re eagerly awaiting official confirmation that Kovacic has joined Chelsea. By the looks of things, we shouldn’t have to wait much longer for it.
Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol claimed on Twitter that Kovacic will undergo his medical today. The deal appears to be imminent.
Kovacic’s arrival could see Tiemoue Bakayoko be shipped off to AC Milan. There’s plenty more business to be conducted before tomorrow’s deadline.
