“Players are caught out of position because of you” – Petr Cech reveals who to blame for Fulham’s winning goal
For his part in Fulham’s game-winning goal in their 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Robert Sanchez has drawn criticism.
Petr Cech, a former Chelsea goalie, called attention to the error that allowed Fulham to counterattack and win the game.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Petr Cech said:
“Robert Sanchez looked to hit a massive diagonal, and he doesn’t hit it properly. That enabled Fulham to hit them on the counter, and players were caught out of position.”
The ex-keeper didn’t hold back in criticising Sanchez’s clearance, which he believes was the root cause of the defensive breakdown.
“The goalkeeper has to look at himself, it was a poor clearance,” Petr Cech added.
Chelsea’s performance during the crucial moment has been widely criticised, with none of their players excelling in the build-up to the goal. However, Petr Cech’s comments place significant blame on Sanchez’s decision-making and execution.
