“Plays like Harry Kane” – Chelsea plots shock move for €30m Bayern Munich attacker as Enzo Maresca signings continues
Journalist Simon Phillips claims that Chelsea has held “new” internal discussions on acquiring forward Mathys Tel of Bayern Munich.
The Frenchman was first mentioned as a potential back in February, and it seems the Blues might give him another look if they finalize Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s transfer from Leicester City.
Despite just appearing in 10 senior games for the Ligue One team, Tel joined Bayern for €28.5 million and has been a member of the team for two seasons.
Despite largely being utilized as a substitute, the 19-year-old has managed to score 16 goals for Bayern in the past 24 months.
Tel has a big future ahead of him
Although the teenager has been mostly played off the left flank by Bayern (cutting in onto his stronger right foot), he is equally comfortable playing through the middle or on the right wing.
With pace to burn and an unerring shot, Tel could be one of the top forwards in Europe in the next four to five years if his development continues on the same trajectory.
However, it also means that Bayern will be extremely reluctant to let him go, and Chelsea may have to stump up a sizeable fee in order to secure his signature.
The Chelsea target is learning from the best
Tel is effectively Harry Kane’s understudy at Bayern and, when speaking to the Bundesliga’s official website back in November, the forward said the England captain has been a “role model” for him:
“It’s important to have people to learn from technically and in terms of finishing. Often I don’t even have to ask him.”
“He just comes over to me and tells me: ‘Mathys, you can do that, or that’. He’s a role model to me, and he is helping me a lot.”
