“Plays like Timo Werner” “Better and well proven than Jhon Duran” – Chelsea fans ‘excited’ after Chelsea interest in signing £70M Belgian star who scored 28 goals last season
TEAMtalk reports that Chelsea has made Lois Openda, a striker for RB Leipzig, a transfer target.
Although the website indicates that the Blues are keeping an eye on the Belgian international, it is unclear if they will make a bid for him. Leipzig may ask for whatever price they want for Openda this summer because he has a £70 million release clause that won’t expire until next year. On whether the team should pursue the forward, X’s supporters are divided:
@toocold_1: I would say yes to this. He’s a Good player.
@CFCmontey: Please nooo
@Chelseafan710: He is good
@Costa870: Another Werner
@KojoPhuse: This is good news.
@big6handso42217: I don’t think he is available this summer
@Nonzinoo_cfc: Much better than the Alaves striker
@UOT_rickie: this must be a joke
@Emeke_1: Better and well proven that Duran imo
Openda did have a great season for Leipzig
The 24-year-old scored 28 goals and contributed 7 assists in 46 appearances last campaign. That is even more impressive when you consider that it was his first season playing in the Bundesliga.
However, Openda was only signed from French side Lens for €40m in July last year, and it is believed that Leipzig would be reluctant to let him go after just twelve months.
Are Chelsea pursuing other strikers?
At the time of writing, Enzo Maresca’s side are still in negotiations to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa, but there is uncertainty over whether the club are prepared to pay £40m for the player.
An offer for Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion has also been rejected. It is believed that the Blues tabled a bid totalling €40m (including add-ons) for the young Spaniard.
