Declan Rice is outstanding, according to Michail Antonio, despite reports that Chelsea is still interested in signing him.
However, Rice has been an integral part of West Ham’s rise since breaking into the first squad, culminating in a Europa League semi-final berth this season.
He is now one of the finest holding midfielders in the Premier League, and at the age of 23, he still has plenty of time to develop into one of the best in the world.
Rice has been on Chelsea’s radar for several seasons – as has Man United – but the Blues are unable to make a move for him until the new owner is in place.
Rice’s contract expires in two years, and he has turned down the Hammers’ offer of an eight-year extension that would increase his earnings to £200,000 per week, sparking even more media conjecture regarding the midfielder.
Despite Antonio’s refusal to discuss Rice’s future – despite telling many fans – teams and observers believe the Englishman is far from his best. ‘Dec hasn’t even hit his best yet,’ he claimed to Sky Sports. He is incredible. What I observe every day in training is that he has so much more to do and learn.
‘But what he’s doing right now, he’s up there with one of the best in the Premier League already.
‘Whatever Dec wants to do, I’ll be happy for him. I love him as a player. I love him as a person. So his decision is his at the end of the day.’
