Report: Chelsea to sell these two players in January after latest decision
According to talkSPORT, Chelsea is expected to make moves during the January transfer window, possibly letting go of midfielders Cesare Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka.
Serie A team Torino is showing interest in Cesare Casadei, who moved from Inter Milan to Chelsea in 2022 for £16 million. With just 11 Premier League appearances as a substitute, the Italian midfielder has battled for consistent playing time at Stamford Bridge. Although Casadei has also had loan stints at Leicester City and Reading, he may be making a permanent move back to Italy in January.
A move to Torino would reunite the 21-year-old with former Southampton striker Che Adams, who joined the club last summer. Despite being highly regarded during his time at Inter, Casadei never made a Serie A appearance, and a move to Torino could offer him a fresh start in his home country.
Chelsea are also open to selling Carney Chukwuemeka, provided his £40 million release clause is met. The former Aston Villa starlet joined the Blues in 2022 but has struggled with injuries and competition for places. Chukwuemeka has made 32 appearances for Chelsea, scoring twice, but has only played five matches this season. He has not been named in any Premier League squads under Enzo Maresca.
Barcelona have been long-term admirers of Chukwuemeka, with interest also coming from other Premier League and European clubs.
Chelsea’s crowded midfield has made it challenging for players like Casadei and Chukwuemeka to secure regular game time. Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez have been consistent starters, with Romeo Lavia, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Renato Veiga adding further depth.
The January window could also see additional outgoings, with left-back Ben Chilwell potentially departing. Chilwell, a Champions League winner with Chelsea in 2021, was informed in the summer that he is not part of Maresca’s long-term plans.
As Chelsea prepare for a packed second half of the season, the club is expected to strengthen their squad in January. Currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, the Blues are looking to maintain their momentum despite a recent 2-0 defeat to Ipswich Town.
Fans will be keen to see how these changes impact the team as Maresca continues to shape his squad.
