Report: Roman Abramovich stopped former Chelsea boss from replacing Frank Lampard
Thomas Tuchel was appointed as Chelsea boss in January following the sacking of Frank Lampard but it reports claim a former Chelsea boss almost replaced Lampard.
According to reports in Italy via CaughtOffside, former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri was close to a sensational return.
The report claims Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia had fought for the former boss to return to Stamford Bridge and Sarri had even said yes, but Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wasn’t having any of it and he intervened to ensure that it didn’t happen.
Sarri won the Europa League during his time as Chelsea boss but the Italian was accused of being too rigid in his approach.
