Report: Tottenham now make contact to sign ‘world class’ Chelsea player, Spurs ready to offer £300,000-a-week
Tottenham have now made contact with Chelsea over a deal to sign Romelu Lukaku – after Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich.
That is according to Alfredo Pedulla.
So, what is the latest on Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea? Let’s take a look…
Well, the Belgium international finds himself in limbo at Stamford Bridge.
There were lengthy discussions about a move to Juventus – which Pedulla mentions are still active – although that move was plunged into uncertainty after the club’s fans stormed the pitch to demand Lukaku is not signed.
The 30-year-old has also rejected a move to Saudi Arabia and saw talks over a return to Inter Milan collapse.
Now – in a shock development – Tottenham have asked about Lukaku, who Thomas Tuchel once called a “world class” striker, as the north Londoners attempt to replace Kane.
Pedulla believes Spurs have been in touch with Chelsea about a move for their Belgian outcast, who – according to Gazzetta dello Sport – has not even spoken to Mauricio Pochettino yet.
Interestingly, the respected Italian journalist believes Tottenham’s approach was made on Sunday night, so Chelsea’s response is yet to be documented.
A separate story from Football Transfers adds that Spurs are even ready to offer Lukaku a contract worth £300,000-a-week, which would make him the highest earner under Ange Postecoglou.
Tottenham may be the only way for Lukaku to escape Chelsea
Lukaku is desperate to leave Chelsea – there is no doubt about that.
However – as aforesaid – he has ignored approaches from Saudi Arabia, and has also found negotiations difficult with those in Italy.
Therefore, staying in London with Tottenham may prove to be Lukaku’s only option as we approach transfer deadline day.
If a move from west London to north London did materialise, it would be a truly shocking development – especially given the rivalry between Chelsea and Tottenham.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen.
