REVEALED: How new FA Cup rule could affect Chelsea
Chelsea will begin their FA Cup quest with a third round tie against Morecambe on Sunday.
However, the FA Cup has introduced a new rule, in a bid to manage games through the coronavirus pandemic.
The new rule, which could potentially affect teams, especially teams with a limited squad, requires that all participating teams in the competition complete Covid-19 tests before the third round.
According to Daily Mail, as the tests are done, if any player is confirmed positive, they will be excluded from the next game, and if their team fails to name up to 14 players for the tie, it will be postponed.
However, if the pending tie isn’t completed before the fourth round, the affected team will simply be eliminated from the competition.
Thankfully, Chelsea have a large enough squad to compete, and the Blues haven’t really been affected by Covid-19 this season, with Kai Havertz the only Chelsea player to have tested positive to the virus this season.
