Chelsea have been linked with a January move for Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake. Chelsea can sign Ake for just £40 million in January due to a buyback clause inserted in his transfer to Bournemouth in 2017.
Here are three reasons why Chelsea boss Frank Lampard wants Ake back at Chelsea:
1. To strengthen Chelsea’s defence
Lampard is concerned about Chelsea’s vulnerability at the back as the Blues have conceded 27 Premier League goals in just 17 games. Due to our defensive issues, Chelsea need to score at least two goals to win most games.
2. Ake is comfortable in possession
Another reason why Lampard wants Ake is because the Holland international is comfortable in possession. Lampard wants his centre-backs to play out of the back and Ake is very comfortable doing that.
3. Ake is versatile
Ake can also play as a left-back and in midfield. With Marcos Alonso leaving Chelsea in January and Leicester City unlikely to let Ben Chilwell join Chelsea in January, Ake would provide cover at the back.
