Roman Abramovich to get Chelsea back? As Chelsea owners ‘explore sale options’ after fights between co-owners’

Just over two years after purchasing the team, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, the co-owners of Chelsea, are reportedly weighing their options.

According to a recent story from Bloomberg, it has been stated that the two parties are considering whether or not to buy each other out after Boehly and Clearlake co-founder Behdad Eghbali’s relationship broke out.

Relations have soured due to differences in opinion on a number of issues, such as the club’s hiring practices and subpar on-field results. It is unclear what the future holds for the Blues at this point, although it has since been revealed that Clearlake Capital has no plans to sell up and would only be interested in increasing their stake.

Boehly – also owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of the Guggenheim Baseball Management consortium – stepped up to operate as sporting director when they initially purchased the club.

But gradually, over the past two years, he has faded more into the background as the club committed to overhauling its recruitment staff.

Over the past six months, Boehly has taken a step back from the day-to-day management of the club, with Eghbali now widely seen to be the most influential figure at Stamford Bridge.

The Boehly-Clearlake consortium acquired Chelsea from Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich in a £4.25billion deal. Clearlake owns more than 60 per cent of the club with Boehly, US businessman Mark Walter and Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss holding the rest.

Chelsea have spent in excess of £1bn on new players since Boehly and Clearlake took charge but results on the pitch have been underwhelming.

The Blues finished sixth in the Premier League after a strong end to the season but the club still decided to dispense with the services of head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Prior to the Argentine’s appointment, Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel in September 2022 and appointed Graham Potter as his successor. The former Brighton chief lasted less than six months, though, before he was sacked and replaced by club legend Frank Lampard until the end of the season.

Speaking to Forbes back in April, Boehly urged disgruntled fans to stick with them amid criticism over the club’s recruitment strategy and poor form. He said: “We just need to let the process develop and give them the time to go from being unbelievable individual players with great skills to fold into a team.

“The good news is people care so much. And the bad news is people care so much. That leads to times when they’re frustrated with the team and the owners. I get that, but we just have to continue to stay the course.”

Meanwhile,

Todd Boehly took over as CEO of the company two years ago after Chelsea did. Reliable sources claim that there have been rumors that Chelsea would go back to its previous owner since more decisions need to be taken.

Former Russian striker Dmitry Bulykin believes that Roman Abramovich has to go back to Chelsea.

He claims that the Blues won’t be able to win another championship unless they let his countryman to repurchase the team.

Peers have criticized the UK government for failing to come to a decision about how to use the £2.5 billion that Roman Abramovich, the former owner of Chelsea, earned from the sale of the London football club.

Almost two years after the sale was negotiated, members of the House of Lords’ European Affairs Committee deemed it “incomprehensible” that officials had not spent the money on Ukraine.

Despite being sanctioned as one of seven Russian “pro-Kremlin” oligarchs, the government decided to let Abramovich sell Chelsea in 2022 as long as the proceeds went towards aiding the victims of the conflict in Ukraine.

According to Bulykin, who told Odds.ru, which Russian might be sent to Chelsea to put things right? The person I would choose is the owner.

“If Abramovich can be brought back, Chelsea will win one of the major trophies.” Unfortunately, things cannot return to how they were, but that could change in the future if Roman Abramovich decides to fight back to win Chelsea back and the team is not progressing.
