“Sell these two Chelsea problems” “Buy these two players” — Mikel Obi warns Enzo Maresca
John Obi Mikel, a former captain of the Super Eagles, has urged Chelsea’s new manager to make acquiring two elite center backs a top priority during the summer transfer window. Mikel’s remarks coincide with the news that Tosin Adarabioyo, a free agent who is expected to join the Blues from Fulham, will be Enzo Maresca’s first signing.
Mikel, who had a fruitful career at Stamford Bridge, stressed the significance of stepping in to cover for experienced defender Thiago Silva. He had concerns about the current Chelsea defense team’s ability to deploy young defenders Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi in pivotal positions.
“Thiago Silva has left us, and we need a couple of centre-halves,” Mikel said on The Obi One Podcast.
“I don’t think Benoit Badiashile is the guy for Chelsea, no. [Axel] Disasi, no. They’re still young players, they will develop. We need proven, top centre-backs who will come in and stabilize that back four. We need that. We need two world-class centre-halves.”
Mikel’s remarks highlight the defensive challenges facing Chelsea as they prepare for the upcoming season. The potential signing of Adarabioyo is seen as a step in the right direction, but Mikel Obi believes additional reinforcements are crucial to ensure stability and success for the club.
