“Send him out immediately or get sacked ” “He will finish us” – Chelsea fans warns Enzo Maresca against starting Chelsea star after 3-1 defeat to Man City
Following their 3-1 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, Chelsea supporters urged Enzo Maresca to exclude one player right away.
In the third minute, the Blues went ahead when Noni Madueke scored after the England winger seized on a mistake by debutant Abdukodir Khusanov.
However, City managed to level the score before the end of the first half, thanks to left-back Josko Gvardiol. In the second half, Erling Haaland put them ahead 2-1.
Phil Foden then capitalised on defensive indecision from Chelsea to run through and slot the ball beyond Robert Sanchez to make it 3-1 and seal victory for Pep Guardiola’s side.
But it was an earlier Sanchez error that Chelsea fans were left furious with – and they have called on manager Maresca to replace him for the Blues’ next fixture.
Prior to the second goal scored by City, the Spaniard ran out of his goal to intercept a long ball forward from opposite number Ederson.
But Sanchez then decided to backpedal towards his own goal once it became clear that Haaland would get there first.
The Chelsea shot-stopper was effectively left in no man’s land, allowing Haaland to take two touches inside before chipping the ball over Sanchez.
While it was still an impressive finish from the Norwegian – his second goal in the Premier League since signing a new nine-and-a-half year contract – Chelsea fans have demanded that Maresca makes a change between the sticks and introduce backup goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen to the starting XI – or sign a new goalkeeper altogether.
One wrote: “Maresca doesn’t get it wrong often imo. He’s completely wrong on Sanchez.”
A second said: “It ain’t even Sanchez’s fault anymore. It’s Maresca and the sporting directors.”
A third asked: “What more does Sanchez have to do to get dropped?”
And a fourth said: “And that needs to be Robert Sanchez dropped. Massive questions now if Enzo Maresca will not drop him.”
