Sorry Arsenal as Lampard looking to take 63-goal winger to Chelsea this January

Reports in the media over the past few days have claimed Chelsea are interested in signing winger Callum Wilson in the January window.

It is no secret that Chelsea are still trying to fight this transfer ban that was opposed on them during the summer transfer window, and have been looking to get the ban shortened ahead of the January transfer window in order to add some fresh faces to the side.

Now The Sun say Chelsea’s legal team are optimistic that the Court of Arbitration for Sport will suspend of even repeal the second ban after new evidence was presented, meaning Frank Lampard will be able to delve into the transfer kitty and spend some of that £130 million they made from sales during the summer.

And the report goes on to suggest that Chelsea are lining up a number of possible signings if the ban does get overturned, with long-term Arsenal target Wilson now on the shopping list of Lampard.

England international Wilson has developed into a key player for Bournemouth since signing from Coventry City in 2014, scoring 63 goals in 159 appearances for the Cherries and his performances for the club led to a lot of rumours that Arsenal were interested last summer, before they opted for a move for Nicolas Pepe.

But with Chelsea keen to strengthen in key areas of the pitch and all the speculation surrounding the long-term futures of both Willian and Pedro, Lampard is reportedly eager to spend some of that £130 million they raised from sales in the summer window and improve the squad for the second-half of the campaign.

It is believed that Bournemouth would not want to let their star man leave the club, so Chelsea would have to put a high price tag on the head of the winger, with a fee of around £45 million assumed to be enough to complete a deal.

Look if Chelsea are able to sign players during the January window and improve the squad, they surely already have enough wingers at the club to get them through until the end of the season and should focus on adding a striker and possibly a top-class centre-half to the side.

Chelsea have no issues scoring goals, but they do have issues keeping clean sheets and that is what Lampard needs to sort out before he adds Wilson to the side for £45 million or so.
