Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has confirmed Chelsea’s interest in young forward Antoine Semenyo, Bristol Live reports.
The London-born Semenyo, 19, was recently recalled by the Robins from a loan spell at Newport County, where he made a huge impact.
Bristol City had managed to beat away the advances of the mighty Chelsea who wished to recruit Semenyo into their youth sides.
The burly forward who can play a variety of roles and has shown the dynamism that can spur Semenyo to great heights in the game is being backed to make a mark in BS3 right now.
Johnson believes Semenyo should stay with City because Chelsea would be looking to sign him as one for the future rather than a member of Maurizio Sarri’s first-team squad.
“It’s no secret that there’s been interest from some top clubs,” Johnson said.
“The interest from Chelsea, when they come calling you get dazzled by the lights.
“When you’re training with the first team and with Sarri it’s different, but when it’s an academy buy…
“He can earn his stripes at this football club.”
