Tomorrow evening, Chelsea turn their attention to Champions League action, with a trip to Valencia (kick off: 5.55pm GMT). A victory in Spain will go a long way to sealing the Blues’ passage into the knockout stages.
Despite defeat to Manchester City, the Blues put in a good performance, taking plenty of positives from their trip to the Etihad.
It’s unlikely there will be wholesale changes, but a few will be made.
Starting lineup
Formation 4-2-3-1
Defence
Kepa Arrizabalaga will start in goal. Changes are likely to made to the back-four. Chelsea have a lot of games coming up, and rotation will be key to continued success. Marcos Alonso didn’t figure on Saturday, and a return to play in his homeland is a possibility. Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma are likely to start, but Andreas Christensen is pushing for a start after injury. Antonio Rudiger remains out due to injury. Reece James came on at city, and is due a start. That would mean resting Cesar Azpilicueta, but that is not out of the question, as shown recently when the Spaniard was rested for Chelsea’s win against Crystal Palace.
Midfield
Frank Lampard has a selection issue with three players pushing for two places. N’Golo Kante has recently returned from injury, and is likely to partner Jorginho in the middle of the park. Mason Mount, a substitute on Saturday, will play just ahead of them in the attacking role.
Wingers
Callum Hudson-Odoi is still a doubt, following a hamstring injury sustained on international duty. Christian Pulisic, and Willian are likely to keep their places out wide, although Pedro will be keen to get some minutes under his belt.
Striker
Tammy Abraham will be hoping to transfer his premier league form into the champions league. The 22-year-old currently has one goal in European action, the opener in the Blues’ 2-1 win in Lille on matchday two. Michy Batshuayi will be hoping for more minutes, and could provide a cameo appearance to allow Abraham a rest ahead of Saturday’s visit of West Ham.
