The Metro have reported that Chelsea did not let Marcos Alonso join Atletico Madrid this summer despite interest from the Spanish club.
Alonso has gradually fallen out of favour over the last 12 months, first under Maurizio Sarri and now under Frank Lampard.
That has meant interest on his part to leave, and has gathered the attentions of other clubs.
But according to the Metro, the uncertainty that remained around Alonso’s status before the start of the season.
When he still seemed to be level pegging competing with Emerson Palmieri to be Lampard’s chosen man, along withe transfer ban, put paid to any further talks of a move.
One has to imagine that unless he wins that spot back, talk will return next summer, and given we can sign players again, that might spell the end of his time at the club.
It’s a mad turnaround given how important he was in a title winning team not long ago.
