“They will shock the world next season” – John Obi Mikel names 2 Chelsea players who will be on fire under Enzo Maresca next season
John Obi Mikel, a former Chelsea midfielder, has been talking a bit about the club’s upcoming managerial change and how he thinks Enzo Maresca has to support two players that dominate games.
The most notable aspect of Maresca’s football style is his possession-based style, which involves a slower build-up while maintaining possession of the ball. Many Premier League teams will therefore try to park the bus against Chelsea and attack them on the counterattack.
However, to win games in this league, you need players of the highest caliber who are technically proficient and strong with the ball; you need those guys all over the field, but particularly in the middle.
Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo have been Chelsea’s two biggest ever signings, and it is these two who will need to step up the most and dominate games for Chelsea to really improve under Maresca.
Mikel thinks they will dominate
Mikel said on talkSPORT: “Enzo Fernandez is a good player, he is a World Cup winner, so he [Enzo Maresca] needs to find a way to get the best out of him as well. If he can do that, he will be so good for us.
“Him and Caicedo in the middle will be so good. They both I can see them can be able to dominate games. He has to find a way to make sure that he can get the best out of Enzo Fernandez.”
Mikel is spot on here and I agree that these two have a good chance of controlling games for Chelsea against most sides.
But it will be the whole team who will need to play their part with keeping the ball, dominating, and doing something positive with it when they do get it.
