The blues have been active in the transfer window this January and have signed Christian Pulisic, the deal gets done yesterday.
The USA international joined from Borussia Dortmund on a £58million deal and has immediately been loaned back to the Bundesliga club. Why did Chelsea act now and not wait until the summer and possibly get the highly-rated youngster slightly cheaper?
According to The Telegraph, there are three reasons.
Reason No.1
The Blues wanted to avoid a summer auction. Chelsea know that Manchester United will be heavily active in the next transfer window under a new manager and that Tottenham, also linked, will have the lure of a new stadium. However, neither club are currently in a position to make marquee signings.
Reason No.2
Pulisic’s move will happen now regardless if Chelsea are handed a transfer ban by FIFA. The world football governing body have been looking into a number of the Blues’ signings.
Reason No.3
By bringing in Pulisic now Chelsea have ensured they have an Eden Hazard replacement at the ready – just in case he seals a summer move to Real Madrid.
