“Time to drop him tonight” – Enzo Maresca desperate to drop Chelsea star for West Ham clash
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is reportedly weighing up a major goalkeeping change ahead of Monday’s London derby against West Ham, with Robert Sanchez at risk of being dropped.
According to journalist Simon Phillips on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, Maresca is now “seriously considering” replacing Sanchez after his costly mistake in Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City last time out.
The Spanish goalkeeper has made several errors this season, but his latest mishap at the Etihad may have been the tipping point. While Maresca has defended Sanchez in previous games, his post-match comments after the City defeat suggest a shift in stance.
“Robert is completely aware he has to do better, we trust him but we’ll decide for the next game,” Maresca told reporters.
With Chelsea linked to Gregor Kobel of Borussia Dortmund as a potential upgrade, it remains to be seen whether Sanchez retains his place or if Filip Jorgensen gets the nod against the Hammers.
