“To be honest Chelsea is something else” – Brentford player reveals why Chelsea is now difficult to play
Sepp van den Berg, the defender for Brentford, expressed his feelings after his team’s close 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Van den Berg bemoaned what he saw to be an unfair outcome when the Bees, despite a valiant effort, were unable to duplicate their previous victories at the legendary stadium.
“First half, they were the better team, to be honest,” admitted Van den Berg post-game. “We couldn’t get enough pressure on the ball, and we were defending low – which you have to do sometimes – but we were struggling to get up the pitch.”
Chelsea capitalised on their first-half dominance, with Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson finding the back of the net. Bryan Mbeumo’s late goal for Brentford provided hope, but it wasn’t enough to overturn the deficit.
Reflecting on Brentford’s improved second-half performance, Van den Berg added: “Second half, we were a lot better: a lot of high pressure, and we kept the ball a lot more too. It’s just frustrating. If the score was 2-2, maybe then it would be a fair result, but we came to a tough ground today.”
The summer signing also emphasised the harsh realities of playing in the Premier League, where games are often decided by small details. “It’s the fine margins, but that’s the Premier League,” he concluded.
