Todd Boehly could end 25-year-old’s Chelsea star career after making two silly mistakes in Newcastle defeat
After a difficult first season at Chelsea, Marc Cucurella was really starting to show some improvement this term.
However, Marc Cucurella‘s role in Chelsea‘s 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United is a setback and one that could potentially have huge ramifications on his future.
Marc Cucurella could lose spot in Chelsea team
Cucurella has been a starter in Chelsea’s side recently and deservedly so.
According to WhoScored, he is actually averaging the most amount of tackles per game in Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad.
However, the 25-year-old will now find himself out of the team for the visit of his former side Brighton & Hove Albion next Sunday after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season yesterday.
With Levi Colwill being eased back after sustaining an injury just before the international break and Reece James suspended for Chelsea’s next fixture, Cucurella was in with a shout of playing at left-back or right-back.
The two players who start next weekend, if they get the job done, then Cucurella could face a real battle getting back into the side.
Another thing that Cucurella has to be worried about is reported interest in Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.
90min claimed earlier this month that Chelsea are keen on Davies, though they believe he has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid.
Nevertheless, it shows that the Blues could be ready to make a move for a new left-back, which could spell the end of Cucurella’s career at Stamford Bridge.
Pochettino already has the Spaniard, Colwill and Ben Chilwell for the position. Someone is going to have to go if Davies is to arrive, with the first of that trio seen as a strong candidate.
It is why Cucurella needs to keep proving himself, which is going to be hard to do if he is out of the team.
