“Try and resolve some of these issues in January ” – Former Chelsea star tells Chelsea why they are struggling
Former Chelsea star, Frank Leboeuf has claimed that the Blues are struggling because they allowed all of their experienced players leave the club.
Todd Boehly’s Chelsea saw the departure of a lot of their first-teamers last summer, including big names like N’Golo Kante, Christian Pulisic, Kalidou Koulibaly and Mason Mount.
The exit of those names made way for a few more younger players to arrive at Stamford Bridge, as Mauricio Pochettino was appointed and charged with the responsibility of making them gel.
The move has however not yet paid dividends, as Chelsea continue to languish in 12th place after 16 Premier League matches this season— same position they finished in last term— and Leboeuf believes that the lack of experience in Pochettino’s side has proven to be a big challenge.
“We all knew at the end of last season that we would see the same thing again,” Leboeuf told ESPN FC.
“It’s impossible to resolve. You sign too many young players who are talented but inexperienced, and you get rid of the experienced players.
“It’s impossible to resolve right now and it’s going to take years before Chelsea are back to maybe what we saw before. But as long as they sign only young players, they will have to face that.
“The pressure from the fans and the media — because of course Chelsea shouldn’t be 12th — is going to be huge and it’s going to destroy everybody. People are going to become upset with the billion they have spent.
“You’re not going to resolve this issue [right now] because you got rid of what is important overall in life: the experience. It doesn’t work.”
